Removing Viruses and Malware from: Personal and Business Computers

Computer vandalism; tools used to cause systems to crash or steal sensitive information.

The internet holds a mass amount of information. It also holds a mass amount of viruses lurking in the darkness of cyberspace just waiting for a surfer to click and download. The internet will forever have viruses sitting and waiting to be launched. Certain programmers, black mailers, teenagers, hackers, criminals, etc, are all working to create viruses (computer vandalism) daily that cause systems and databases to crash. On the other hand, maybe the creator of the infection just wants to have a little fun by tricking a user to click on an internet link that will automatically download and place some annoying pictures on a surfer’s computer.

I was surfing Google one day researching antivirus and malware protection software programs for my computers. After typing in the information and hitting the ENTER key, Google returned the results. I scrolled down a few links, skipped a few pages, and then clicked on a link that mentioned something about free malware protection. As soon as I clicked on the blue link Google provided, a window popped up and said, “Your computer is infected, click here to fix the problem“. I tried closing the window, but no response. The window looked like a bogus pop-up window from the Windows Microsoft operating system, but I could tell that it was more like an image of a window pop-up in disguise and the graphics were not exact as windows 7. I also recall seeing a timer that counted down telling me that I had 15 seconds to click here to fix the problem. This is to get the user to panic and quickly click on the provided link. Afterwards, I knew right away that I made a mistake because I had never seen this type of pop-up window before on my computer. Besides, it happened while I was on the internet.

After restarting my computer the next day, pictures kept getting place on my desktop. These pictures were of naked people. Every time I deleted them, 5 seconds later they would pop back onto the desktop. Very frustrating. My wife saw them and immediately assumed that I was downloading or looking at these types of pictures on the internet, until one day she was searching for something on Google and the same thing happen to her. She mentioned that a window popped up which said to, “click here” to fix the infection, so she clicked. Once this virus gets on your computer, it is very hard to find it and remove it.

If you run into this infection on the internet and you cannot close your browser in time, how can one remove this annoying pop-up program that infects an innocent surfer’s computer?

I found some free software called Malwarebytes. Awesome software that will scan your computer, find the infection, and remove it for you and it also lets the user know if a restart is needed to additionally wipe the infection. Malwarebytes does not run in the background, it only scans for infections when you open the program and ask it to. This software is one of the best malware removal programs to remove viruses, infections, and malware. It also has a quick scan. Best of all, there is a free version; malwarebytes.org is constantly working to update the software for new and current viruses. I am just sharing this information in case someone else experiences this same problem and needs to know how to remove this annoying infection that is accidently downloaded from the internet that will put these unwanted pictures on your desktop for everyone to see. I am not trying to sell this product for the manufacturer, just a personal preference that I found works very easily and very well. I use Malwarebytes every time I finish surfing because I do not want these viruses to live on my computer where they do not belong.
